Where chatak is used
Deeds in Dhaka, Chattogram, Kolkata and the rest of Bengal write a plot as bigha, katha and chatak, for example "2 katha 12 chatak". Because a chatak is only 45 sq ft, it fills the gap between whole katha, in the same way inches fill the gap between feet. In the acre system the equivalent small unit is the ojutangsho (4.356 sq ft), and in the kani system it is the kora or kranti. The formula page lists all of them side by side.
The same word is also a weight (a chatak of rice, about 58 grams). This page is only about the area unit.
